Present Continuous (Easy Lesson)
The present continuous tense is used to talk about actions happening now or around now.
1. When to use
- Actions happening now: I am reading.
- Temporary actions: She is living with her aunt this month.
- Near future plans: We are meeting tonight.
2. How to form the present continuous
Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing
I am working. / You are studying. / He is cooking.
Spelling rules:
- Verb ending in e: remove e + ing → write → writing
- Short vowel + consonant: double consonant + ing → run → running
- Regular verbs: add -ing → play → playing
3. Negative sentences
Use am not / is not (isn't) / are not (aren't) + verb-ing
I am not working. / They aren't watching TV.
4. Yes/No questions
Am/Is/Are + subject + verb-ing?
Are you studying? / Is he cooking?
5. Wh- questions
Wh-word + am/is/are + subject + verb-ing?
What are you doing? / Where is she going?
